When Aussie anime lovers get married: A Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya cosplay wedding

At a Glance

One thing you must know about this couple, Karl and Kristina, is that they had this engagement shoot. Yep, that’s a cosplay of the anime series The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, which was a shared interest when they met. Their wedding, while not an exercise in cosplay, totally had veins of their anime love throughout (including the main characters of their favorite show as the cake toppers!).

Their wedding, while not an exercise in cosplay, totally had veins of their anime love throughout (including the main characters of their favorite show as the cake toppers!). Fashion also ruled the day with the bride’s Kanzashi hair ornament, contemporary kimonos on the bridesmaids, and even some unexpected Green Lantern Corps details from the groomsmen. It’s a little bit traditional, a little bit geeky, and a LOT bit right up our alley. Thanks to Jonathan David Photography for sharing the love.

Beautiful wedding! I love the cake toppers with Kyon and Haruhi. That’s one of my favorite animes.

A great example of including your own personailty and style, while keeping a lot of traditional elements as well.

And of course beautifully captured by Jonathan – he’s shooting our wedding later in the year and we can’t wait.

Wow! Wow! Thank you for featuring our wedding! I just wanted to say I had a lot of inspiration from the site when we were planning it. The Kanzashi ornament was definitely from here. We also made our own props for the photobooth (though it’s not shown here.)

Thank you also to our fantastic photographer Jono for sending the tip!

Again, thanks for featuring us! Never thought we’d get featured here, it is such a nice surprise! ^^

    Cheers,
    Kristina & Karl

LOVE your crane place cards! Any chance you’d want to share how you did that awesomeness?!?!

My husband Karl was the one who actually made them, with my sister-in-law! I didn’t do any as I’m bad at folding… I’ll get him to reply on how they were made 🙂

Hi all, thanks for the awesome feedback 🙂 wasn’t expecting this to show up on a site like this, but it’s definitely a pleasant surprise!

RE: crane place cards – I’m pretty keen on origami so I was able to reverse-engineer it from when I saw a picture (starting with the basic origami crane).

I stumbled into this a while back though and it takes you through the steps pretty well. Hope this helps!

I love how elegant meets geeky for some serious geek chic! The romantic colors, the fun touches, LOVE IT! I love that get away car, and the bridesmaids dresses, too! Wow. Too much to love here. Did I say that?
