Don’t have a vintage suitcase? Use a guitar case card box
Card boxes are a cute lil avenue for you to release some creative wedding energy. We should know — we’ve seen tons of the adorable things y’all have come up with. But let’s say you’re more into the idea of a vintage suitcase than creating your very own Card Monster. If you don’t have the time/energy/finances to seek out an elegant, timeless Samsonite, never fear. Do you know anyone who plays the guitar?
Fantasy fandom mash-up: a Harry Potter meets Lord of the Rings wedding
It’s Hogwarts and Middle-earth combined to form a most heavenly, super DIYed, ultra geektastic wedding in the bride’s hometown in Texas. Loads of time went into the handmade invitations, save-the-dates, favors, centerpieces, programs, menus, seating chart, boutonnieres, and KICK-ASS sword handle bouquets. Seriously, don’t miss those. The couple rocked their Hogwarts houses all night on the dance floor and cut the cake with a huge axe. It was a hug axe fun time. Puns!
Gen X vs Millennials: How Offbeat Brides of different ages are super different
In my work with Offbeat Bride, I’ve been around people planning their weddings for a decade. It’s to the point where I meet people (…adult people! People of very acceptable marrying age!) who are like “I’ve been reading you since middle school.” People have been reading this website since menarche, my friends!
As the years have marched on, I’ve started noticing this shift in weddings, that I think reflects a larger cultural and generational shift between my peers (which is sorta the tail end of Gen X) and my younger pals (aww, Millennials I love your beards and artisianal pickles). My undergrad degree is in sociology, so people-watching large groups is my favorite favorite in favorite town, and so pull up a chair and let’s muse on larger cultural trends, mmkay?
We’ve got your first class ticket for this travel-themed wedding
Julie and Leo love to travel the world, so a travel theme at their New York wedding at Bear Mountain Inn was ideal. Think boarding pass seating cards, a globe-inspired cake, and a globe guest book. Their ceremony was officiated by Leo’s brother with their parents standing by their sides. It ended sealed with a travel-themed paper airplane throwing exit. Don’t miss the unrehearsed sing-a-long to a Les Miserables song where guests sang different parts!
