Marriage equality is for wedding parties too: 5 tips for bridesmen
Marriage equality has arrived and it’s not just for “the gays.” Wedding customs are evolving for all. Wedding parties are progressing, as well, and the tradition of “boys on one side of the aisle, girls on the other” is being adapted so that each spouse-to-be gets to stand with their tightest pals — regardless of gender. But not everybody is ready for this party. Some guests see a bridesman or groomsgal and don’t know what to do. Here are a few simple tips for managing OPA (“Other People’s Anxiety”) and performing at your very best.
My husband’s ex-wife is his Best Woman
When John and I got married, our wedding party consisted of one person each. My Maid of Honor was my best friend of twenty years, Kate. His Best Woman was his ex-wife, Katie. My biggest concern was that people would mix up their names. Since then, I have been told a dozen times, “You let his ex-wife be his Best Woman? That’s so weird! I could never do that.” As if it’s common knowledge that all ex-wives are evil and all new wives should be jealous of them and hate them.
Violins, serenades, and sweet moments at this Florida wedding
Jo and Sarah’s bit of vintage glamour, laid-back style, epic ink, and sweet little setting set the stage for this wedding in Jacksonville, Florida. Their venue, the Mandarin Community Club, used to be the Freedom School built and founded by Harriet Beecher Stowe. As a surprise for Sarah, Jo sang “To Make You Feel My Love” for the last dance of the night.
