This 1930s garden party wedding somehow happened in 2013!?

At a Glance

Ashley and Robert had that idea that they’d plan an authentic 1930s-styled garden party. The nail’s head was hit so hard, the nail died. The affair was held at a 1907 Tudor mansion in Highland Park, CA, with a 1935 Packard sedan to deliver the bride. The groom and groomsmen wore 1930s-era morning attire with top hats, while the bridesmaids were clad in couture organza gowns created by Ashley’s good friend and bridesmaid, Theresa Laquey. The bride’s out-of-this-universe dress is actual 1930s vintage from eBay. To top it all off, the catering was based on actual recipes from a 1930s cookbook. Everything about this makes me want to blow my wig… blink my peepers… be dizzy with these dames… and basically blurt out a lot of 1930s slang.

The real magic must have been in the invitations that somehow made all the guests be perfectly attired and coiffed for this era. Because if I know people, and I don’t, I know they herd like cats when it comes to this stuff.

Here’s more evidence that these guests NAILED the landing fashion-wise. Are you seeing the shoes and that hat peeking out in the back?

I’m pretty sure we’re spying bloomers right here. This is serious business authentic.

“Pardon me, sir…” “No, no, I insist…” “Bumble bumble… spot of tea.”

Well, now I officially don’t believe that this wedding is even from the present, but rather that they are time travelers set to blow our minds. Mission accomplished, time and space benders… mission accomplished.

The reason so many of the guests dressed vintage is because they dress vintage every day! It’s a lifestyle for some people! Ashley looks gorgeous but then, she always does!

Wow, this blew my mind!!! I kept looking at the 1st photo and trying to match up the article to the photo and I’m like, these people were inspired by a vintage photo? This is epic epic epic. I love historical accuracy SO MUCH because there are people who try, and bless them but they just don’t get it RIGHT. This is eye candy!!!!

Some of these lovely people are friends and acquaintances of mine. For most, it’s all vintage, all the time. This is what we do, though we also enjoy the perks of the modern world.

If you are in or near California, I recommend you look up the Art Deco societies there. Many of these people are members of the Art Deco Society of CA, including the bride and the designer.

That’s AMAZING! It’s one thing for there to be a theme but for the guests to get SO on board, it’s amazing! It looks just like my great-grandmother’s wedding.

I provided a moon photobooth for the Wedding, and it’s a great way to see what many of the guests were wearing! See them all here:

This is just seriously amazing. Bloomers? What even, that touch takes the cake.

And after looking at that Flickr album, I’m even more impressed. So many of those photos are like looking at digitally recolored antique photographs. Even the eyebrows on the bridesmaids are authentic.

Share with me your wizardry, O time travelers!

Can I just comment on the practicality of bloomers?!!! I would recommend any bride wearing a long heavy dress wear bloomers or at the very least, boxer shorts, underneath. The reason? At the end of my wedding, my legs were so hot, so sweaty from dancing, that they were literally sticking together. I ended up breaking out from the friction burns. I am a little bit plus sized (14W), but I imagine this could be a problem for any sized bride who is going to be dancing the night away with possible chafing from the thigh friction. I wish I had thought of bloomers!!! It seems so obvious, and yet, it took seeing them in one of the photos from this wedding for it to dawn on me, nearly three years after my wedding, that I NEEDED to be wearing them under my dress.

Actually, that’s my slip I wore, not bloomers. I wore a 20’s silk step in so I wouldn’t have any lines. 🙂 Bloomers are a good idea though

I’m wearing Derby Skinz under my dress. I got them in blue glitter so they’re doubling as my something blue.

5*s! LOVE that the guests did it right too!
I would have re-dressed the flowergirl from head to toe but that’s the movie costumer in me.

yeah, the clothes are great but can I just say:

oh my god, The HAIR! Can I ask what that particular style is called? I lust for it every time I see it.

(and will likely continue lusting for it even after figuring out what I have to Google to find a tutorial: I’m a scrunchy and/or hair clip girl who doesn’t own a hairdryer let alone a curling iron. For my wedding I pulled my hair back in a loose and lazy bun and just wore a fancy hat instead of worrying about it >.< )

My best friend did my hair that day. Its a 30’s wave set. I wore pin curls for like 3 days for this event. I only took them out the night before the wedding because we had a rehearsal dinner, and it was fancy.

the set isn’t that hard, its all about having the right length of hair and the certain amount of bobby pins
