Two ladies finally celebrate 20 years with a garden wedding in Utah

At a Glance

The Red Butte Garden in Salt Lake City was the garden backdrop to this “big gay wedding.” They included their three children into all aspects of the day with movie soundtracks, a kids’ table, glow sticks, and more. Other highlights included their gourmet grilled cheese bar, ice sculptures (with the couple as Minions!), a LEGO cake for the kids, a cake inspired by album cover art, and loads of succulents.

Amy and Rachel have been together since they graduated high school, and there were a couple of times that they had a chance to get married like when San Francisco briefly began issuing marriage licenses to same sex couples, when it became legal in Massachusetts, etc. But they knew all of those times were bound to be challenged later. After the birth of their twins, they were finally legally married in British Columbia, though it still wasn’t recognized by the home country of the U.S. When their home state of Nevada started recognizing same sex marriages, they knew it was time for their big wedding. Right around their 20th anniversary, they brought their self-titled “big gay wedding” back to their other home state of Utah for a sweet vow renewal and reception.
