What made our wedding offbeat: Traditional Polish weddings are like a disco, but ours was more like a rock gig.
By Polish cultural standards, my red dress was considered completely unacceptable. My husband wore a black suit, shirt, and accessories — the superstitious believe black brings bad luck.
My favorite moment: Every moment was special, so it is very hard to pick one. If I had to choose, I’d say the first dance, the first kiss and all the wishes from guests.
My funniest moment:
- My husband flying to the ceiling with the help of his friends.
- My mum dancing while my husband kneeled in front of her.
Was there anything you were sure was going to be a total disaster that unexpectedly turned out great? I thought the first dance was going to be a disaster. We had practiced and practiced, and then when we started to dance, I realized that I hadn’t bustled my train and my husband is was dancing on it. We stopped for a second and I thought it was over, but then I just took the train in my hand and we finished the dance. Everyone said that it was a great dance and that they didn’t notice the break.
My advice for offbeat brides: Try to think with your heart — don’t listen to people telling you that you shouldn’t do that because they think it’s wrong. If you want to do it, be “wrong.” People who know you and love you will understand why certain things are different.
What was the most important lesson you learned from your wedding? Follow your heart.

I’m polish myself, have been to several polish weddings and had to miss this one! absolutely amazing! knowing polish reality i can asure all of you that the cople had a great courage to decide on this kind of the wedding! I am so glad you wore red! My mom is a Polish Catholic and she was so upset I was going to wear red that I finally changed.
