Frequently Asked Questions

For the last 8 years I shot every wedding under the sun, and after all of that I learned which weddings I really WANT to shoot and what kind of Wedding Photographer I wanted to be. I ditched the traditional all black suit while shooting, I started wearing my chain wallet and pyramid belt, I threw on an awesome embroidered western shirt and my Smile hat and my amazing job got even better, and people loved it!! I have tattoos, I skateboard, I’m a drummer in a rock & roll band, If you love this, then you are my ideal couple. If you don’t, you may think I’m not right for you, although I’d still be happy  rock your wedding!!

Now I am trying to build a business where I can be who I am and I can shoot the people I love to hang out with. The misfits, the queers, the punks, the weirdos, the OFFBEAT!!

My favorite weddings to shoot are the ones that stuck up a big middle finger to tradition. I tell couples all the time, this is YOUR wedding, do what YOU want!! Let’s have fun, stay chill, get creative & break the mold. You be you and I’ll make it last forever!

I truly love weddings so I will shoot almost any wedding, But i have the most fun at Non-Traditional, quirky, fun, different weddings.

I am primarily in New jersey and New York but LOVE to travel ANYWHERE for my “job”!

I try to keep everything very simple. You have a Client Portal with anything related to your wedding and photography. There is no printing/signing/scanning/etc. I am all paperless/electronic and pdf downloads! That being said, when you book me several months/years out, I don’t ghost you! You will receive periodic email with tips, tricks and reminders including a few Zooms or In-Person meetings to chat about your day.

Anywhere from last minute to around 2 years.

Why do I do what I do?!

I travelled to Florida, my first time traveling to shoot a wedding and the entire trip and wedding was flawless. Truthfully though what I am most proud of is my journey as a wedding photographer. I learned what I want to shoot, how to use my voice, and I have become incredibly confident in what I do!

I spoke about keeping it simple a few questions back and its true. I have One Simple Package. It is a flat rate of $5000 dollars. T10 hrs is a typical full wedding day, so you are getting full coverage! I only have a few add-ons that would change that rate. Travel, 2nd shooter, engagement shoot and a physical Album.

I try to stay at a competitive, affordable rate.

Everybody loved you!!

I think people get bogged down by what they are “supposed’ to do. Let go of tradition. Have the wedding you want! It should be fun and feel like you as a couple.

I love couples who wake up on their wedding day and let it all go! I tell everyone its not flower day, or cake day, or dance day, its Wedding Day, and no matter what happens you WILL get married to YOUR person. Let go, trust your vendors and have the best fucking day ever!!!

Shooting in New York City, I have been a part of just about every culture race and religion you can imagine. Its all good with me. Its not about anything but you and your person finding each other.

I had a bride tell me she cried because she had never seen herself that way. In a good way!!

Laid back, fun, creative and personable.

Love from Offbeat Couples

Joe is an absolute gem! ????? From start to finish, working with him was easy. His warm demeanor instantly put everyone at ease, and his talent behind the camera is unmatched.

The photos Joe captured weren’t just pictures—they were memories, beautifully frozen in time. Every shot had so much heart and detail, making it clear just how skilled and passionate he is about his work.

Joe is professional, easy to work with, and genuinely cares about ensuring his clients are happy.

If you’re looking for a photographer who can bring your vision to life and deliver, Call Joe

There are no words to describe the incredible experience my husband and I had with Joe Curry. From the date of hire, through the entire two-year wedding planning process, Joe was available and consistent with his professional communication. He always came prepared to our virtual meetings, full of detailed and thoughtful suggestions. He listened well when I explained what I was looking for and offered valuable insight on how to best go about everything. Fast-forward to my official wedding day, Joe captured my entire dream vision for both the ceremony and reception. His formal preparation went a long way because during cocktail hour, we flew through the combination lists, and we even had extra time to add in a few additional family members for photos! He drove all the way to Connecticut for us, connected with me throughout the entire six-hour event to make sure that I was okay, and stayed the entire time! I never had to question whether or not he caught any special moments because he was right by our side all night! We received our photos back very quickly after the wedding, and as we shared those memories with our family, we were blown away by the breathtaking images. The photos were some of the highest resolution and quality that we have ever seen, so my guests were equally delighted! Joe set the perfect lighting for each setting, and he even worked with the beautiful horse we had at the venue! My husband and I are extremely grateful for all that Joe has done for us, so with that, I highly recommend his photography services to everyone! There’s no way that he would disappoint. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Joe! We will certainly be calling you again!

Joe Curry Photography was one of the absolute best decisions we made for our wedding day, and we couldn’t recommend Joe more highly! Finding the right photographer was a challenge for us—we wanted someone we’d enjoy spending an entire day with, someone we could trust to deliver on our high expectations, and someone who could handle the chaos of our big families and the many pictures and portraits we had planned. Joe delivered on every front in the most incredible way.

From the very beginning, Joe’s personality and approach stood out. During our engagement shoot, I (the bride) was distracted and nervous about how windy it was that day, but Joe immediately put me at ease. His calm, reassuring demeanor and ability to keep things lighthearted turned what could have been a stressful situation into a fun and memorable experience. By the time our wedding day arrived, we had full confidence in his ability to capture it beautifully.

Joe’s ability to balance humor with professionalism is truly remarkable. He made the day so much fun for everyone, keeping the mood light and joyful while seamlessly managing the timeline and making sure we got all the important shots we had envisioned. Wrangling our big families and bridal party wasn’t an easy task, but Joe handled it with ease and kept everyone laughing along the way. By the end of the night, many of our guests, especially the groomsmen and bridesmaids, were joking that Joe was their new best friend—and honestly, we felt the same!

The photos Joe delivered were nothing short of breathtaking. His creativity, attention to detail, and ability to capture the emotion and joy of the day truly shined through in every picture. These photos are something we will cherish forever, and they’ve already brought us (and our families) so much joy as we relive the day through his lens.

If you’re looking for a photographer who is not only incredibly talented but also a joy to work with, Joe Curry is the perfect choice. He exceeded our high expectations, made the entire experience enjoyable for everyone, and gave us memories we’ll treasure for a lifetime. Thank you, Joe, for being such an important part of our wedding day—we couldn’t have imagined it without you!

We worked with Joey to shoot our wedding on October 21, and he was absolutely incredible. We were blown away by the quality, style and esthetic of the photograph’s that he captured. On top of being an extremely talented photographer, he was able to keep every aspect of the day moving along, going above and beyond what his role required. It has been just over a week since our wedding and Joey already edited and returned back all of our photos! The best turnaround time I’ve ever heard of! There are hundreds of photos and everyone we’ve shown is so impressed with them. Joey’s style emphasizes living in the moment, you truly can feel the authenticity behind each picture from the first look to the dance floor shots. It has been such a gift to scroll through and relive the best day of our lives!

Overall, Joey is someone you want on your team for your wedding day, celebration or event. We will absolutely be reaching out to him for all our future photography needs and can not recommend him enough!!

How do you personally identify, and how does that shape how you work with couples?

I’m just a regular dude. I am straight, married and middle-aged. Im down with anyone and everyone. No prejudices here.

How did you get started as a wedding pro?

I got sober and was figuring what a highschool dropout could do to support my wife and start a family. My, now wife, then girlfriend, said I should be a photographer. I trust her and sh is right a lot, so I went for it.

What was the moment you realized you didn't fit into the traditional wedding industry?

When I shot a very traditional, very upscale, black tie wedding and felt like the help. Good Money Bad Vibes. NOPE!

Describe your aesthetic in three words that have nothing to do with weddings.

Contrasty, Colorful, Energized

What's one thing conventional wedding vendors often get wrong, and how do you do it differently?

Its a lucrative industry and too many people are in it for the money and not for LOVE! Also people don’t take the weight of the day seriously. This is your fucking WEDDING day. Thats real and not to be taken lightly. If you haven’t cut your teeth on a million low budget terribly run wedding days, or been a 2nd shooter or held a light and carried bags, all the while learning from the people better than you that you admire, DONT be anywhere near someones Wedding Day!

What's your favorite wedding tradition and why?

Parent dances are a beautiful and emotional part of the night, especially now that I am a dad! I also love a good 1st Look!!

What wedding tradition or trend do you wish would die and never come back?

Honestly? Family Formals. What are we doing here with the 50 combos of everyone in your goddamn bloodline??

Have you planned your own wedding? How did it change how you work?

I planned my wedding right as I was starting my journey in wedding photography. Because that was the case there are a lot of things I would have done differently in my own wedding now that Ive been to hundreds more.

What do you wish couples knew about you before they reached out?

I don’t expect couples to know much before they reach out. Wedding planning can be difficult and overwhelming and isn’t a normal thing that couples do. It is nice when I can tell they have don some research based on the questions they ask, but I believe it is my job to educate a couple on what hiring a wedding photographer looks like.

What's the most surprising client feedback you've ever gotten?

I answered this back in the FAQs but my clients have been overwhelmingly happy with not only my images but my presence on the wedding day. I pride myself in what I bring to the day!

How do your couples describe you when they're recommending you to friends?

he is the fucking best!!
