Frequently Asked Questions
Gender-neutral contracts? Check. Preferred pronouns? Check. Accessibility for everyone? Check. Creativity and mad lighting skills? Check. Competence, punctuality, responsiveness and attention to detail? Aaaalll of that.
We are neurodivergent-owned, woman-owned and queer-owned (somebody has to keep the B in LGBTQIA+!) Neurodivergent and proudly Disabled? You aren’t just welcome; you are celebrated! From brides with walkers to sensory-friendly shoots to perfect posing with wheelchairs, Milestone Images meets you where you are, embracing and capturing the essence of you and your loved ones. Trust that I will be supportive to everyone participating.
Offbeat Wed has afforded me the incredible opportunity to witness and document every kind of love story in just about every culture, sub-culture, identity and religion.I’ve photographed polyamorous, pagan, purple-dress-wearing weddings, and everything in between.
Trans, non-binary folks and queer couples? You don’t have to worry if I’m ‘comfortable” with your wedding. I’m comfortable! Let’s do this!
I’ve gone all the way to India for weddings; I travel! I’m based in the Hudson Valley with regular shoots in New York (ALL the boroughs!), Long Island, New Jersey and Connecticut. I work up and down I-95. (My mom hates when I say that.)
My number one request from neurodivergent folks comes down to lighting. While I have fancy flashes that shoot from every angle and level of brightness (so not pounding you in the face!), my camera sensors are sensitive enough to cope with low-light scenarios without artificial lighting.
I’m also very conscious about posing with purpose. Marrying a short king? Me too! Plus-sized? Me too! Equality with wheelchair users? Everybody sits. Do you have a walker or two bouquets in your bridal portraits? Both? Both are good.
Reach out however you like. The website contact form puts all your info in my handy studio software, so that’s nice. I send you my fancy online brochure and we set up a chat. We have to vibe with each other. Your photographer is the one vendor who has the most contact with you throughout the day. You have to be a mutual fit.
Clients book up to two years in advance to guarantee my availability. Because I shoot so many things (bar mitzvahs, baptisms), I’m booked but not necessarily on the days you might think. Just text me. I respond almost instantly that way.
You can also send a note through my website, email, and DM. In fact, you don’t have to call me at all. You can just go outside, lay out a cheeseburger, a chicken feather and a single photograph (any will do, even your phone lock screen). Face north and shout, “Does anyone have any opinions about Canon vs. Nikon?” and I appear in a puff of rainbow smoke.
How do you back up your work so nothing bad happens to our wedding photos? I have elaborate archive system, including making two simultaneously photo files on different digital cards in case one goes kaput. I love sharing the lore of Hard Drive Forest.
Plastic forks. I connected with a couple who got married in a VFW. They wanted to work with me so much that they cut their budget everywhere but my fee. And I mean EVERYWHERE! They loved my work so much and believed in paying a fair wage for art. As they fed me and the other vendors generously from the buffet, I was like, “Holy shit, I’ve gotta kick some ass today.” I’ve also shot two weddings now where the couple got divorced, and one partner hired me for the second wedding. My client relationship lasted longer than the first marriage. I will get misty-eyed behind the camera for your happy ending, however your love story gets you there.
My prices start at $3200 for a package that I used to call “Just Shoot Me.” That’s Collection Four now, but it’s what it sounds like. A reasonable and prudent amount of time for basic coverage. Prices scale with package offerings. I’d love you to meet my trusty second shooter Tom, videographer Jesse and content creator Alex. Avengers, assemble!
I love shooting all kinds of couples with all kinds of love stories. I strategically place myself in a market where my prices fit in ordinary budgets, while offering an extraordinary client experience. This means a wide spectrum of couples can afford my services, and I get to eat a lot of free cake on the weekends. Everyone wins!
Reasonably priced and responsive
Accept from the very beginning that everything is going to cost more, take longer and be infinitely more complicated than you ever imagined. I don’t know why, but people just loose the ability to follow directions like, “Please go here at this time and do this” when it comes to weddings. I don’t know why.
Happy people in love? I don’t know. Because offbeat couples are… offbeat, there’s no one way I dream couples should be. My favorite love story in the last two years was a wedding for two brides in their 70s who met all the way back in junior high fifty years go.
All of them! No, really. I photographed a Satanist wedding once. Bring on your ring-warmings, handfastings and hymns. Let’s stomp the glass and jump the broom. I will beam at you while you circle the fire seven times and open the door for the ancestors.
I’m here for it all.
“You didn’t get any full length shots of the back my dress!”
::me listing the file numbers of more than a dozen photos featuring the full back of her dress:::
They would tell you I’m funny as hell. I’m a clown! (I am not a clown. Clowns are scary.)
Yup! I remember being totally psyched when one of the major studio management software companies announced the ability to use indentifiers beyond “bride and groom” in contracts at a big wedding expo. That was 2011. There’s no excuse.
